USING THE TOOL

A Competitor Map is a visual tool that enables you to better understand your product or service’s position within the market from a specific perspective. This can help you to identify the ways in which you may be ahead of similar companies, or alternatively where you may be lacking.

  1. Identify: Decide what two criteria are most important to your project, for instance: value to customers or usage fees.

  2. Map out: Label the x and y axis with these two criteria and map all competitors accordingly, including where your project lands in comparison to them.

Tips

  • It can be useful to map yourself and competitors using multiple different criteria

  • Don't just consider direct competitors. For instance, if you are Odeon, your competitors aren't just other video rental companies
